128 years have validated
the fact that adhering to a consistent, structured daily routine
fosters student success. To a young person, this fact seems at first
paradoxical but they quickly learn that the less they have to think
about how to occupy their time or what to wear or where to be, the more
they can focus on what’s truly important. It’s a truism that Stephen
Covey made central to his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
He calls it putting “first things first.” When we do so, we not only
achieve the priorities of our life, we simultaneously create more time
to pursue our passions.
Wentworth follows a Schedule of Calls that has cadets waking up at 6
a.m. and in bed at 10 p.m. In between, they stand formations, attend
classes and activities and have prescribed study time, as well as “down”
time to prepare for the next day. The key to success is learning how to
optimize each opportunity they are given in order to improve upon the
day before.
